Biography

Professor Ahmed holds a joint appointment in the Health Sciences and Women’s and Gender Studies departments. Her research and teaching focus on gender, health, and development in the Global South, with particular attention to community health, vaccine hesitancy, and collective action. She employs qualitative and decolonial methodologies in her work.

She is currently completing her forthcoming book, Gender, Labor, and the Fight Against Polio: Lady Health Workers, the State, and Vaccine Hesitancy in Pakistan, which examines the role of female community health workers on the frontlines of Pakistan’s polio eradication campaign.
