Personal profile
Biography
I began my career as an accountant and business manager and went back to school after 15 years to fulfill my dream of being a scientist. I received my BS in Microbiology, MS in Clinical Laboratory Science and PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology. I worked productively 20 years as a research scientist in the Department of Surgery at Rhode Island Hospital focusing on the development of indirect lung injury in severe trauma patients. My NIH funded research produced 50 plus peer reviewed manuscripts as first and/or collaborating author. I am grateful to have worked with dedicated surgeons and to have had the privilege of collaborating with brilliant scientists. This experience has been invaluable in sustaining my own continued commitment to mentoring and inspiring students in the nursing and health science programs at Providence College.
I often reflect on the mentors who helped me navigate my own career path; those generous educators who taught me, listened to and supported me. I hope my students realize that, I too, am a valuable resource, that I see them, and celebrate their hard work and dedication.
